A play about gay and lesbian young people - work in
progress
Show Reviews
"One of the festival's innovations was to bring
theatre to The George and I was amongst a large crowd
that sat in silence for almost three and a half hours
on a Sunday afternoon to hear staged readings of top
British gay playwright Mark Ravenhill's work in progress
'Citizenship'. This piece deals with coming out, peer
pressure, teenage experimentation, pregnancy and was
presented with great skill by Crooked House Theatre Company
- a youth theatre group from Kildare . Neil Connolly
gave a tour de force in the leading role - with a multitude
of talent in supporting roles giving life to this play
for over 75 minutes. In fact the standard of acting
by young practitioners in the festival has been very
high and augurs well for its future development. The
after play discussion, in the presence of Director Peter
Hussey was revealing and insightful and Hussey will
present the views expressed to Ravenhill as he progresses
this work further. Plaudits go to actors Connolly, Ian
Holinshead, Des Phillips, Aoife Whelan, Gillian Lynch,
Treenie Curran and Laura McGann." - Gordon Farrell,
Scene City - June 2004
