Singing
Out Too!
By Brian Merriman and DAYMS (Late Night Review)
Friday, 13th May - Saturday, 14th May (Author/Director:
Brian Merriman, Musical Dir: David Wray) Cobalt Café
at 11pm. Tickets 10 euro
'Singing Out Too!' is a late night cabaret revue starring
Brian Merriman, David Wray and guests from DAYMS The
Musical Workshop. It is a musical glance at coming out,
being out and staying out, utilising the works of gay
composers, lyricists and artists. Spanning the well
known and the not so well known musical works of the
20th century, Brian and his guests will bring us on
a memorable 'singing out tour' in a night of some pathos
and lots of comedy. Building on the success of last
year's 'Singing Out', this late night revue - a gay
tour of musical theatre - starts at 11pm for just two
nights only.
'Singing Out Too!' is a evolution of the first show,
but is thematically driven by music that explores the
comedy and emotions of coming out, being out and staying
out. Drawing on the works of gay composers, lyricists
and performers this programme features many numbers,
previously unheard, from new and emerging gay musical
theatre. Singing Out Too is full of fun and strong on
emotion. Musical excerpts from Avenue Q, The Producers,
Xanadon't, Most Men Are, Boy Meets Boy, Songs by David
Fierstein, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Noel Coward,
Laurenz Hart, Ivor Novello, songs recorded by artists
including Micheal Feinstein, Fascinating Aida, Robbie
Williams and many others make this a late night revue
of top class entertainment!
Brian is joined on stage by Musical Director David
Wray and by members of DAYMS The Musical Workshop for
the first ever late night revue in the international
festival.

Show Reviews
"The final offering by production companies in
this year's festival and appropriately it came from
the Artistic Director in a late night revue of the songs
of gay composers and lyricists and from emerging gay
musicals. It is not easy to sit through a programme
of "lesser known" songs but this 80 minute
revue flew by leaving you wanting more. Brian Merriman,
and Musical Director David Wray presented a personable,
intimate and entertaining evening in a wonderful location
with an enviable ambiance the Cobalt Café.
Merriman's hospitable and friendly presence brought
us through a tale of coming out, being out and staying
out devoid of the usual homosexual angst, and
full of positive and affirming pieces a must
see for young people in particular, despite the broad
taste and range of the music covered (from 1922 to the
present). Backing singers Noel Sutton, Eddie Devoy (both
singing live!), Alan O Sullivan and Brendan Spratt added
a lot to the fun of the evening and any "dodgy
word moments" were more than compensated for by
many wonderful harmonies
from the combined five male voices. We had a terrific
selection of eighteen very evocative and entertaining
numbers delivered with panache, in a brilliantly researched
piece, which still has some more scope to strengthen
the almost effortless and humorous links provided by
the artist. Behind the humour lay some very positive
points about being gay. I am delighted that this concept
of a late night revue has worked so well, as the full
house and the sustained applause proved. Merriman presented
the only "all gay" show of the festival and
I did enjoy last year's "Singing Out" in Bewleys
but this performance of his new show "Singing
Out Too!" was streets ahead!."- Gordon
