Aims & Objectives
IDGTF aims to promote cultural diversity and to build understanding and appreciation of cultural difference. Our target audiences are the mainstream public, professional theatre, academia, the gay community (men and women), young people, and international audiences. Our objectives are:
To provide a theatrical channel for presenting new and existing works by gay writers, or works that have a gay character, theme or relevance, to a mainstream theatre audience;
To contribute to the development of the art form, drama, in a changing Ireland;
To encourage and develop the concepts of gay theatre to include gender identity, masculinity, sexuality, feminism and to reward achievement in writing, production and performance;
To promote cultural diversity by providing an event accessible to all audiences, of a high artistic standard, that opens up dialogue, shares perspectives, stimulates discussion promoting greater understanding of diverse cultural identities.
