Patrons
David Norris
Senator Norris began lecturing for Trinity College's
(Dublin) English Department in 1968.
Specialising in twentieth century literature he is well
known for his love of James Joyce's work.
His closest association to the theatre world has been
the many Joyce performances and one man shows.
Although, David Norris is probably best known for his
work for gay rights.
After a split in the Irish Gay Rights Movement in which
he was a founding member in in 1974, Norris went on
to help found the Campaign for Homosexual Law Reform.
After a lengthy legal process the Irish government changed
the laws criminalising gay men in 1992.
He first became a member of the Seanad in 1987.
Following decriminalisation he became involved in other
human rights issues and was also involved in various
campaigns to preserve Georgian Dublin in previous years.
He has also restored his own home to the glory of that
era.
The Board members of the gay theatre festival are delighted
Senator Norris agreed to be our patron.
