Renowned Playwright Doric Wilson Has Passed Away

It is with great sadness that we learn of the sudden death of the renowned US gay playwright Doric Wilson. Doric was a pioneer of his craft and was rightly celebrated by the gay and arts community in New York for giving gay people a voice in times when no one wanted to hear.

His legatees, the members of the inspirational gay theatre company he founded ‘The Other Side of Silence’ TOSOS, have performed many times at the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival. Doric honoured our Festival Director Brian Merriman some years ago by appointing him to the Board of Directors of TOSOS. Our beloved Ambassador Kathleen Warnock and our many friends are grieving at his sudden and unexpected passing. We share in that grief and send them our love as we stage this international celebration of gay theatre which he and his likes made possible by their courage and artistic integrity.

We will dedicate our Gala night and awards this Sunday to his distinguished legacy and lasting memory.

Coming so soon after the loss of Lanford Wilson (no relation) this is a double tragedy for gay playwrighting. Doric leaves a large and loving family of gay artists and audience. His talent and artistic generosity illuminate the international gay arts community. His work and his beloved TOSOS will live on in the care of those who love him.
He will Rest In Peace.
