Sudden Death of Playwright Fiona Coyne

Sad news has arrived from South Africa that Fiona Coyne has died suddenly.  Fiona was both a popular TV presenter and a talented playwright who incorporated the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival as a theme in her wonderful comedy ‘Careful’ which was a great hit of our 2009 festival programme. Fiona was nominated for her writing for the prestigious Oscar Wilde Best New Writing Award 2009 and her play went on to win Best Female Performance that year.

’Fiona was a wonderful insightful playwright who blended skilfully her great sense of humour and dramatic skills in her quality writing for the theatre. She wrote particularly well for women and her loss is considerable. On behalf of the IDGTF, we offer our sincere sympathy to her family, friends and colleagues in the theatre at this untimely passing of a kind and talented colleague’  said Brian Merriman Artistic Director/ExecutiveChairman of IDGTF.
